Daily Skin Care Routine/Makeup Prep

If you’re like me, a person with dry/sensitive skin, your skin care routine has to include great moisture products. A lot of people don’t realize but you don’t need high-end skin care products for your skin to flourish. ✨  Here’s my up-to-date skin care routine that I also use before my makeup.

Step 1. FACE WASH

St. Ives Oatmeal and Scrub Mask | This is made with 100% natural exfoliants like walnut shell powder. I’d pick this first before any of other face scrubs, simply because my skin is very sensitive and this face scrub is probably the softest one I’ve used in a while. One thing I hate is when I wash my face and I get redness from scrubbing — this face scrub decreases that reaction. If I choose to use this as a face mask, I’ll leave it on for about 10 minutes and proceed with lukewarm water and pat my face dry with a face towel. Using this as a scrub and mask has great lightening benefits! My face always looks rejuvenated after using this.

St. Ives Green Tea Face Scrub | Insider: green tea helps clear blackheads and calms redness as well. Green tea also has anti-aging and antioxidant benefits that can help delay signs of skin aging, such as sagging skin, sun damage, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. As my #2, I’ll use this when I get tired of using the oatmeal scrub from St. Ives. To be honest, both are GREAT for dry skin, as to other scrubs and masks that are harsh on the skin. Scrubs that a more harsh on the skin, like the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, are mainly used for people with blemishes — hence why they have a rougher texture. So I tend to stay away from harsh exfoliators because my skin is 1) very dry and 2) extremely sensitive. Scrubs with rougher textures will dehydrate your skin, causing you to lose moisture. Luckily, these two scrubs are super gentle. Peep this, the green tea scrub comes out green! (PS, the St. Ives facial scrubs can range from $3-5 depending on where you buy.)

Step 2. TONER

Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner | This toner includes 5% Glyolic Acid, Aloe Vera, and Ginseng. It gently exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, revealing healthy glowing skin. I use this right after I wash my face to relieve dehydration. This toner is very gentle on the skin and balances it back out after washing it. I’ve used this for about a year now, and my skin has gotten significantly softer! Aloe Vera is a good source of moisture — one reason why I love this toner so much. The pricing is a bit much, but totally worth it. I bought this from target for $15, so it might be pricier somewhere else.

S.W. Basics Toner | This toner has only 5 ingredients: water, organic raw apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, organic clary sage and sandalwood oils. You have to shake the bottle a few times every now and then because of the unfiltered apple cider vinegar, which is totally normal. I’ve only used this for a week but I can say it does wonders. My skin showed a significant jump in brightness, just after the first use!  I bought this at target for $9.99 because it was on sale (great deal), but the original price is $22. I didn’t mention this earlier but a toner helps restore your skin’s pH balance, shrinks pores, and refreshes your skin. It also adds an extra layer of protection from harsh chemicals, such as minerals and chlorines that are in tap water. This step is optional but definitely worth a try in your skin regimen.

Step 3: MOISTURIZE

Cortizone 10 | Now this is totally optional, but I use this because I tend to have redness and itchiness on my face. I also use it when I get small bumps on my face. It is very helpful for people with eczema, rashes, scars, and acne. You use a dime size amount and you’ll be fine. When I skip this step or run out for a few days, I notice my small bumps start to resurface or I start scratching my face. So this product is a life saver for me!

SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil Complex Sensitive Skin Facial Moisturize | The absolute best facial moisturizer I’ve used by far! Here’s some fun facts: (1) The Peace Rose Oil Complex is a blend of Alpine, Damask and Musk Rose Oils that softens and comforts skin. (2) The Date Palm Extract is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, which helps smooth and protect skin. (3) Camellia Leaf Extract contains anti-inflammatory properties that helps calm and soothe skin. I use a dime size of this and my skin is glowing and ready to go! When I say my skin goes from being completely dry and itchy to glowing and hydrated. This product helps my skin look so fresh and I love it. I bought this at Target (as you can see I LOVE Target, lol) for $12 and it was totally worth my money!

MAKEUP PREP

For makeup prep, I do all 3 steps listed above and follow with my primer of choice. Primer is a base for foundation or face makeup that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. Formulas are available in cream, gel and powder. While moisturizer softens skin, primer prepares skin for your favorite moisturizer or foundation, giving it something to hold onto so it lasts throughout the day.

img_5327NYX Honey Dew Me Up Skin Serum & Primer | This product racks up at around $13 at Target and $17 at Ulta Beauty. I love this because it comes in a gel form with honey gold flakes in it, which moisturizes my skin and leaves a subtle glow. How to use? Apply to clean moisturized face. Wait 2-5 minutes for product to set completely before applying makeup. Remember, if you have dry skin, you won’t want to go with any products that are powder based (including your foundation) because it’ll make your skin appear dry or ashy. As some primers will irritate the skin or even leave a stingy sensation, this one doesn’t! It blends well and is easy to apply. Plus, the bottle is so cute and the gold flakes makes it look aesthetically pleasing. 😩😭  After 5 minutes I’ll put on my makeup as usual.

Alright. There you have it, my daily skin care routine/makeup prep. It’s important to have a skin care routine to maintain healthy skin! Especially if you wear a ton of makeup like me, you need to be able to take care of your skin under that beat face! Makeup makes you look pretty, yes, but the chemicals can destroy your skin as well. Whether you have combination/dry/oily skin and love to keep a beat face (or don’t), try out some good skin care products and build yourself a regimen so you can stay glowing and rejuvenated when you choose to wear no makeup at all. A good skin care regimen doesn’t need a bunch of products for your skin to be healthy. Leave some good skin care products to try down below in the comment section to try. Maybe I’ll have an updated skin routine by the fall. 🌻  thanks for reading!
