BINGE-WATCH WORTHY: Netflix Edition

Now that finals are over and summer break has officially started (for me at least), I can get onto endless binge watching of my favorite television shows when I’m not working. Luckily, Netflix has been giving us great shows of their own which I will also cover. Now lets work down this list of my favorite binge-watch worthy tv shows (these are not in any specific order). I’m sure some of these will look familiar…

tv_the_walking_dead_wallpaper1. The Walking Dead (6 seasons)

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, this gritty drama portrays life in the weeks and months following a zombie apocalypse. Led by police officer Rick Grimes, his family and a group of other survivors find themselves constantly on the move in search of a safe and secure home. But the pressure each day to stay alive sends many in the group to the deepest depths of human cruelty, and Rick discovers that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be more deadly than the zombies walking among them.

2I-QZZkR2. The Office / U.S. (9 seasons)

This U.S. adaptation — set at a paper company based in Scranton, Pa. — has a similar documentary style to that of the Ricky Gervais-led British original. It features the Dunder-Mifflin staff, which includes characters based on roles in the British show — and, quite possibly, people with whom you work in your office. There’s Jim, the likable employee who’s a bit of an every man. Jim has a thing for receptionist-turned-sales-rep Pam — because office romances are always a good idea! There’s also Dwight, the co-worker who is successful but devoid of social skills and common sense.

breaking-bad-S5-400x600-compressedV13. Breaking Bad (5 seasons)

Mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher Walter White thinks his life can’t get much worse. His salary barely makes ends meet, a situation not likely to improve once his pregnant wife gives birth, and their teenage son is battling cerebral palsy. But Walter is dumbstruck when he learns he has terminal cancer. Realizing that his illness probably will ruin his family financially, Walter makes a desperate bid to earn as much money as he can in the time he has left by turning an old RV into a meth lab on wheels

how-to-get-away-with-murder4. How To Get Away With Murder (3 seasons)

Annalise Keating (Oscar- and Tony-winning actress Viola Davis), a brilliant, charismatic and seductive professor of defense law, teaches a class called How to Get Away With Murder. Annalise, also a criminal defense attorney, selects a group of students — the best and the brightest — to assist with cases at her firm alongside her employees, the trustworthy and discreet Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie Winterbottom (“Gilmore Girls” alum Liza Weil), an associate attorney. Mysteries arise that test everyone’s limits and reveal dark truths.

BobsBurgers

5. Bob’s Burgers (1 season)

Bob Belcher is a third-generation restaurateur who runs Bob’s Burgers with his loving wife and their three children. Bob believes his burgers speak for themselves and isn’t afraid to offer a variety of off-beat creations. Bob’s wife, Linda, supports his dream but is becoming sick of the slow times, as the restaurant is constantly in danger of going out of business. Despite the challenges, which includes consistent harassment from Linda’s ex — a health inspector — Bob tries to keep the grill sizzling.

GreysCoverPhoto
6. Grey’s Anatomy (12 seasons)

The medical drama series focuses on a group of doctors at a hospital in Seattle, including several who began their careers at the facility as interns. One of the doctors and the show’s namesake, Meredith Grey, is the daughter of a famous surgeon. She struggles to maintain relationships with her colleagues, particularly the hospital’s one-time chief of surgery, Richard Webber, due to a pre-existing relationship between them — Webber and Meredith’s mother had a personal relationship when Meredith was young.

American-Horror-Story-Universal-Featured-081720167. American Horror Story (5 seasons)

“American Horror Story” was created by the co-creators of “Glee,” but the shows have little in common besides that. The show revolves around the Harmons, a family of three, who move from Boston to Los Angeles in order to reconcile past anguish. What the Harmons don’t know is that the house they’ve moved into is haunted. But it’s not haunted by Casperesque friendly ghosts — it’s haunted by demonic creatures. The creatures have a history of not only spooking the house’s residents but also devouring them. After living in this house, family patriarch and psychiatrist, Ben, may need a shrink of his own.

americandad-default-nologo-800x450-800x450_0623201404148. American Dad (8 seasons)
Stan Smith is a CIA agent painfully dedicated to homeland security. His home life includes doting wife Francine, a ditzy housewife, liberal daughter Hayley and socially awkward teenaged son Steve. Also living in the family’s Langley Falls, Va., home are Klaus, a goldfish with the brain of an East German Olympic ski jumper, and Roger, an escaped alien from Area 51, who Stan houses in defiance of his employer due to owing Roger a “life debt.” Sounds just like the typical American family, right? Maybe not.
Shamelessseasonįposter9. Shameless / U.S. (6 seasons)

Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy stars as Frank Gallagher, a single father of six who spends much of his free time drinking at bars. The Gallagher children — led by oldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum), who takes on much of the child-rearing responsibility due to her mother’s absence — manage to raise themselves in spite of Frank’s lack of parenting and unusual parenting style when he does choose to act like a father. The drama is an adaptation of the BAFTA Award-winning British show of the same name.

304160pretty-little-liars_300x40010. Pretty Little Liars (6 seasons)
As time has passed since Alison, then the queen bee of the bunch, went missing. Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily have gone on with their lives, though they’ve grown apart. As the years go by, each girl finds herself facing a new set of challenges when anonymous text messages from “A” threaten to expose all their secrets — both old secrets the girls were sure only Alison knew, and newer secrets developed after Alison’s disappearance. Who is “A” and how does he or she know the things he or she knows? Based on the series of novels by Sara Shepard.
1200x627-Q80_0ad7cbf69ffbcdc6f079fa324d12396011. Scandal (5 seasons)
“Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes is the creative mind behind this ABC drama. Olivia Pope, a former media consultant to the president, is ready to move on with her life and opens her own crisis-management firm, but she can’t seem to shake ties with her past. Olivia’s staff includes Quinn Perkins, who has a complicated history, and hacker extraordinaire Huck. As she moves forward it becomes clear that, while her staffers may specialize in cleaning up the lives of other people, they can’t seem to do the same for themselves.
greenleaf12. Greenleaf (1 season)

The Greenleaf family, which runs sprawling Memphis megachurch Calvary Fellowship World Ministries, appears to be a loving and caring clan. Beneath the surface, though, exists scandalous secrets and lies. Greed, adultery and sibling rivalry are among the issues that threaten to test the family’s faith and tear the group apart. The scandalous happenings are uncovered by Grace, the estranged daughter of church leader Bishop James Greenleaf, when she returns home after a 20-year absence. Oprah Winfrey has a regular role on the show as Mavis, Grace’s aunt.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit13. Law & Order: Special Victim Unit (4 seasons)
Detectives who are part of the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit investigate crimes against the vulnerable. While the focus of other shows in the “Law & Order” franchise is primarily on murder cases, the SVU detectives frequently deal with rape and assault, in which a survivor assists with the investigation. The series cast of veteran actors includes Mariska Hargitay and rapper Ice-T, and occasional crossover episodes feature detectives from other series including editions of the “Law & Order” franchise and as well as “Chicago PD,” another series from the mind of executive producer Dick Wolf.
voo2ut14. That 70’s Show (8 seasons)

Set in the mood ring and polyester era of the 1970s, the series is a retro-hip situation comedy about an eclectic group of friends on the verge of adulthood. They live in the suburbs of Wisconsin, where they yearn for independence amid the growing pains of becoming adults.

On the mysterious condition that he work only with recent Quantico graduate Liz Keen, he agrees to help put away criminals from a list that he compiled, which includes politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists — starting with long-thought-dead terrorist Ranko Zamani. As the two pursue their quarry, Red forces the rookie profiler to think like a criminal to see the bigger picture.

NETFLIX ORIGINALS

I must say, Netflix has done a hell of a job with their new releases. About a year ago I wouldn’t even give the time of day to their originals. The moment I gave The Stranger Things a try, I was HOOKED. Now, I’m watching almost each and every one of their new releases. Next up on my list: Dear White People.

 1. Dear White People

Students of color navigate the daily slights and slippery politics of life at an Ivy League college that’s not nearly as “post-racial” as it thinks.

2. The Stranger Things

When Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities.

3. Chewing Gum

When Tracey’s purity creates problems for Connor in the bedroom, she turns to the internet for answers — and finds a threesome.

4. 13 Reasons Why

As the school mourns the death of Hannah Baker, her friend Clay receives a box of tapes with messages she recorded before she committed suicide.

5. The OA

A woman missing for seven years turns up at a hospital with strange scars on her back but can’t — or won’t — reveal where she’s been.

6. Narcos

Chilean drug chemist Cockroach brings his product to Colombian smuggler Pablo Escobar. DEA agent Steve Murphy joins the war on drugs in Bogota.

7. Sense 8

From the creators of “The Matrix” and “Babylon 5” comes this series in which eight people can telepathically experience each other’s lives.

8. Making A Murderer

Filmed over 10 years, this real life thriller follows a DNA exoneree who, while exposing police corruption, becomes a suspect in a grisly new crime.

9. BoJack Horseman

A humanoid horse, BoJack Horseman — lost in a sea of self-loathing and booze — decides it’s time for a comeback. Once the star of a ’90s sitcom, in which he was the adoptive father of three orphaned kids (two girls and a boy).

10. Longmire

Longmire patrols the county with a brave face and sense of humor, but deep inside he hides the pain of his wife’s recent death. With the urging of his daughter, Cady, and the help of Vic, a new female deputy, Longmire gains a new appreciation of his job and decides to run for re-election.

11. Black Mirror

This sci-fi anthology series explores a twisted, high-tech near-future where humanity’s greatest innovations and darkest instincts.

12. House of Cards

A ruthless politician will stop at nothing to conquer Washington, D.C., in this Emmy and Gold Globe-winning political drama.

13. Orange Is The New Black
Forced to trade power suits for prison orange, Chapman makes her way through the corrections system and adjusts to life behind bars, making friends with the many eccentric, unusual and unexpected people she meets.
14. The Get Down

Set in the late 1970s, when New York was at the brink of bankruptcy and disco was dying out, the rise of hip-hop is told through the lives, art, music and dance of a group of young people in the South Bronx.

How I Plan to Live Out My 20’s

Before I go onto my spiel, I would like to give homage to the beautiful illustrations in this post. Nicholle is a visual artist/illustrator from Paris, France. Her work is amazing! Check out her work via Instagram [@nichollekobi] or nichollekobi.comimg_4842

PERFECT TIME TO BOSS UP

On April 6, 1997, a QUEEN was born! Now that I can say that I’m officially apart of the dub club, I’ve gotten a stronger urge to go after the things I want. When it comes to my career and education, I want to excel in my college department and also the workplace to the best of my ability.

Education & Career

My college career has been a rollercoaster the past two years. I switched my major twice and through that process I realized what I really loved and wanted to do. I am an aspiring entrepreneur who loves fashion. I love traveling. Why not take those interests and turn it into my career? I want that feeling of loving to work on Mondays and weekends. I want others to feel confident in what they’re wearing. The #1 tip that helped me? DON’T WASTE ANOTHER DOLLAR SITTING IN A BIO CLASS WHEN ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS DRAW OR PAINT. Think about what excites and energizes you, but also keep in mind what you’re good at. If you’re really passionate about what you do, I promise, THE MONEY WILL COME TO YOU.

A few weeks ago, I got offered an amazing position as a stylist and manager for a boutique around my hometown. I could not be more grateful. For years I’ve had a few retail jobs that never really suited my persona but helped me gain the retail and sales experience that I needed to get the position I have now. The pay is amazing, which is a plus. When you’re doing something you love, the amount of money you get payed for it shouldn’t be a qualifier if you stay in the field or not. You’re doing this because YOU love to do it. Nonetheless, don’t settle for less when it comes to how much you charge or get paid – know your worth!img_4832

God has blessed me in abundance! I plan on moving forward from here on out. In 5 years, I want to take my career to New York, then Miami! I want to own my own swim wear line and have many boutiques across the U.S. and hopefully expand. I also want to become an expert in visual merchandising and become the head of that department for a high end fashion brand. By the end of this year, I plan to have 300 followers on this here platform. Blogging has become such a special part of my life and I don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. Remember… the way you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible for you, determines everything that happens to you.

Physical Wellness

img_4837“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” – Steve Jobs

With some of my free time during this semester, I decided to dedicate some time to the gym. It worked for the past few weeks in the beginning, only going two days a week. As the semester went on I found myself becoming lazy and uninterested in the gym and more interested in taking naps! I had to shake this off. So I started giving myself a routine schedule for the gym, which worked out perfectly. It made me more consistent.

Going to the gym made me want to go the extra mile and start eating a bit healthier. Baby steps! I started eating more greens with EVERY meal. I even made time to eat breakfast in the morning, which I never really do because I can’t find the time. I MADE TIME. It’s important to make time for the things you want to do and I promise you it’ll make you feel better about life while you’re also making an effort to have better time management skills. When I work out, I feel rejuvenated. Exercising is probably one of the top stress relievers on my list. And even with eating healthier, its become easier for me to concentrate when studying. I want this aspect of my life to grow in my 20’s. I want to make exercising and eating healthy apart of my everyday life.

Friends, Family, & Relationships

Can I just say that I adore and thank my friends so dearly. If there’s anyone I can count on, it’s them. I never took the saying ‘you meet some of your closest friends in college’ seriously until it actually happened to me. My girls and I are flourishing I tell you! And I couldn’t be more proud. They keep me sane and in check when need be. They’re always there for me whenever I need them and the most supportive people I’ve met yet. We all have different aspirations in life and we’re all reaching our goals at our own pace. In our 20’s, hopefully we can plan some getaways. Get away from our responsibilities for a while and spend more time exploring the world and doing different things. I’ve always wanted to go on a camping trip, bungee jumping, parachuting… the list goes on. I look forward to seeing my friends graduate, build their career, find their soul mates and get married, have children, move into their first home, etc.

Anyone who’s been around my family knows that we are very loving and family oriented. We host a lot of family events like cookouts and get-togethers literally all of the time. My grandpa always says that family is so important and some of the closest relationships you’ll ever have. I hope the generation in my family can keep this alive. The get-togethers, prayer meetings, cookouts, parties… family bonding time is an essential part of my life.

Throughout my 20’s, I don’t plan to look for love but let it find me. I hope to become the person God has destined for me to be so that when the time comes, I’m ready and prepared. img_4833Do I think I’ve already found my soul mate? Possibly. But God’s timing is always better than mine and RIGHT ON TIME. It’s sad to say that most of my heart break has happened before my 20’s but I’m glad that it did. I’m wiser and more aware. I won’t stress or worry because I know that God is preparing this man for the future and saving him just for me. The husband and family will come, but in the meantime my growth as a person will progress. My goals will consistently be accomplished and the glo will continue to manifest!

A Night Out On The Town

fullsizerender-2fullsizerender-3

Dress: Jasmine Off Shoulder Neck Detail Midi Dress in Black (Size 4)

Shoes: Liliana Triple Buckle Strappy Stiletto Heel (unavailable) in White from UrbanOG.com (size 7.5)

I got the chance to wear this lovely fit to my best friend’s birthday dinner two weeks ago and I loved every minute I spent with her and her family. The dress comes with a choker which is attached from the back of the dress, made from the same fabric as the dress. I paired this look with my apple watch with a black band to match my dress and kept it very simple looking. Very inexpensive look (besides the watch, haha)!

Concert Series: Tory Lanez

Would you rather: leave to go to a concert early to get first spot in line even though you know the wait will be long to get inside, or leave late to avoid the long line and the wait even though you know you’ll have bad seats?
As my best friend and I planned, we were going to get ready for the concert early so that we could leave for the concert on time. But as you know with us girls it never works out that way! The concert started at 7:30 PM and we left my house around say….. 8:30 PM. Reasons being:

  1. I had to SLAY her make up and then mine. Which if you didn’t know, takes up a lot of time.
  2. Of course we took a thousand and one pictures.
  3. We’re black. So of course we were running on CPT (Colored People Time), haha.

(Outfit details ➡️ Knit dress: Express | Perspex heels: Fashion Nova | Satin coat: Fashion Nova | Choker: Sunny Mae Boutique)

Walking down the streets of Downtown Cleveland made me miss home so much. It sucks being 3 hours away. I couldn’t help but think about the exploring I plan to do once I come home for winter break. Along the same strip as our destination, The House of Blues, there’s a bakery named Colossal Cupcakes which I’m dying to try. Sucks to say I’ve been living in Cleveland all of my life and I’ve never had a cupcake from there. I’ve heard so many good reviews about the place that it’s now on my to-do list of places I need to visit.

For those who don’t know, The House of Blues has no seating. Close to an hour already into the concert, my best friend and I stood with a huge crowd of people as we listened to the opening act: Taylor Bennett (Chance The Rapper’s brother). He was amaaazzziiinnnggg!!! I can’t even explain how great of an artist he is. It’s  almost like having two versions of Chance; they sound exactly the same! Next up was Kranium, a Jamaican singer. I didnt know much about him ’till my best friend explained to me who he was. Then it poppped up in my head that I’ve heard one of his songs before. He had the crowd singing all old reggae tunes like “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley and “Hold Yuh” by Gyptian.

And here you have it folks, the moment we were all waiting for! 😩  😍

Tory Lanez came out and performed all of his top hits! Luv, Say It, Flex, N.A.M.E…. the list goes on. My best friend and I were surprisingly  very close to him, which I definitely wasn’t complaining about considering it was packed and very hot. In the middle of his performance, Tory stopped his music to give us a review of his past life along with some inspirational words. He told us that no matter who they are (your boss, teacher, sister, mother, etc.), do not let anyone keep you from living the life you want to live.

As the concert came to a close, Tory began crowd surfing while singing his feature to “Litty” by Meek Mill. I was so close to touching him but not close enough! About an inch away but my hand couldn’t reach far enough. I was so bummed out when it all was over. Maybe if I just had reached a little further I would’ve been able to touch him. I bet the guy holding his hand to keep him up was very ecstatic. All in all, I had a great time and now want to expand my concert series! Next up: ????

Xoxo,
