Dear Self,

Don’t neglect the responsibility of nurturing yourself. Your existence and imprint as the woman you’re daily developing and blossoming becoming is irreplaceable, unmatchable, and needed. Love the heck out of yourself, just as God loves you.

I am beyond thrilled, ecstatic, and honored to have been given the opportunity to speak on self-love. Not to mention the fact that this is an area which I have neglected for years, and prevented myself from receiving/giving love, appreciation, embracement; and the relentless power of choosing myself even at the worst painful, confused, questionable moments in my life. I’ve learned and I am still in the process of understanding daily that self-love isn’t just embracing the good parts of you that you’re proud of or others have been fond of; but also taking the time out to love the gooey, flawed, authentic version of yourself and investing time into growing and changing anything about you that would be for the better.

Loving a false you will not heal nor bring out the best version of yourself. When you fall in love with the real you, you’re an unstoppable, unshakeable, undaunted woman in the face of anything that may come against you to question your identity as a woman and as a child of God.

I believe there are many ways a woman can cherish, speak words of affirmation about, and appreciate herself wherever she may find herself in life: in and out of seasons, in her highs and lows, the good the bad, and the ugly; or on valentine’s day as a single or with a significant other… etc. Her self-love should be shown, given as a gift to herself no matter what the circumstances are.

There are a couple of things that I have been implementing more and more of, to the degree that it has become a lifestyle. Why? Because I believe a healthy woman is a growing and fruitful woman. But here’s one thing I’d like to share that can be broken into multiple parts but we will only speak of as one:

Be proactive in your time alone.

It’s our responsibility to nurture the woman you are growing into. No one else can cultivate you the way YOU can. I’ve failed miserably countless of times when I neglected and robbed myself by not choosing to utilize my time alone to discover Widny (you may add your name here also), walk in purpose, practicing to perfect my craft, have a day off to rest, disconnecting myself from social media to properly refocus, investing my heart and mind into things or people that are healthy; and, most importantly, seeing myself the way God sees me. We lose a piece of ourselves ladies when we don’t empower and invest. It will be very difficult to celebrate the next woman who’s popping and flourishing in their lane without being a hater; becoming bitter and envious of her.

When you take care of yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, everything around you falls into its proper place. And ladies; correct me if I am wrong, but when you take care of yourself (and I am not referring to any materialistic possessions, titles, status), you glow differently; inner peace and joy becomes your GLOW.

Guest Post February | Brand YOU: Self-marketing Your Way to Whatever the Hell You Want

There are two reasons why people hide behind their brand: shame of promoting a brand/business or people are very much interested in the behind the scenes of the movement, job, business, or brand. I fall into the first category.

I wasn’t afraid of sharing magical moments on Instagram or tweeting popular tweets on twitter. It was natural, automated. I didn’t think about it. I just did it. I also didn’t fear sharing content on social media and give credit. I would screenshot a post on Instagram, retweet a tweet, or share an article or product on Facebook. However, when I got down to sharing events, products, or business ideas for myself, I would shut down.

I cancelled events, photoshoot campaigns, and business ideas because I would give myself so much negative talk until my mind was convinced that everything would failed. I felt stuck, unsure, and convinced that doing my own thing wasn’t for me. I even prolonged the released of my own website because I didn’t like it and felt like it wasn’t perfect enough or didn’t convey the message I wanted. But once I started promoting my blogs the fear started subsiding.

My personal brand allowed me to start promoting my own things: my tweets, my love for jackets, my design business, my blogs, and so much more. I bought Make Yourself Marketable by Emmelie De la Cruz and started really investing in my personal brand. Emmelie’s book guided me through the personal mission statement, goals, core values, successes, and things I can offer to others that align with vision and core values. In addition, I started really researching women who have built their brand from just being themselves and pursuing the things they love. People like Valencia Clay (teacher activist), Mia Ray (lifestyle blogger)), Myleik (Owner of CurlBox), Meagan Ward (Owner of Creatively Flawless), Emmelie (Marketing Strategists), and so many more constantly improves their craft and utilizing their skills to fund and start more opportunities that align with their purpose all while being their authentic self.

Through this self-marketing journey, I have learned:

  1. Promote but always be yourself
  2. Silence your inner critic
  3. Always keep improving
  4. Life is a journey. Not a destination. Where you start today, you may not even be tomorrow.

As you build your personal brand or even your blog, people want to connect with who you are. They want to know the person behind the brand and how they connect with you. When I started participating in twitter chats, more people started engaging with me. They begin to see me as a person they can communicate with, relate to, and buy from. My sales begin to increase, of course not how I wanted, but people begin to build trust with me.

Self-marketing doesn’t have to be complicated. We tend to overthink and overcomplicate everything. I started researching and learning from women who are their brand. Their brand was an extensive to what they want to offer, not who they are. And once I learned my own value, I felt the journey to my own success took learning, growing, and owing who I am while growing into who I want to be. Identify your transferable skills, develop a vision statement for your life, stay aligned to your core values, and promote the hell out of yourself.

What My 30 Day Social Media Cleanse Taught Me | Welcome 2018!

Hi guys! Its been literally, 30 days since I’ve blogged (actually a bit more). Remember when everyone thought the world was going to end in 2012? Who would’ve thought that we would make it to see 2018?? God is extremely merciful and an awesome God. As the year started, I decided to give myself a break from social media so that I can clear my mind and start this year off with a new way of thinking. We all know that social media can be such an influence on our way of thinking and our everyday lives.

It’s Not Easy

First of all, DO NOT think that this challenge was easy for me. As a blogger & beauty influencer, I can tell you right now… it hurt my poor soul to give social media up. I couldn’t post any makeup looks, couldn’t express my thoughts via tweets, couldn’t keep up with my friends’ everyday lives on Snapchat, etc. I can say though, in the beginning I was so determined to do this. The first two weeks weren’t that bad, but as things started to happen in my life, I couldn’t express how I felt like I could before — via the internet.

Use Your Time Wisely

What did I do instead of browsing social media you ask? I read books, played games, hung out with my friends, I even got a chance to plan my entire semester out. I made myself a workout plan, a daily planner, a budget plan, and a business plan. Believe it or not, this helped me realize how much time I ACTUALLY spend on the internet. When I eliminated it completely, I realized how much free time I had to do other things like some of the activities I listed above. Even just cherishing those times with those you love without having to reach for your phone.. its a completely different experience.

Jesus Confirmed It!

My relationship with God got so much stronger. I cannot stress this enough. Instead of expressing my thoughts on the internet, I confided in Him. When I talked to God, it was almost like writing in a diary. Whenever I had an idea, I talked to God about it and the next thing I know, He’ll confirm my thoughts. I felt so much pain, sadness, anger, and negative vibes go away after “writing in my diary”. Staying away from the internet in my tough times and just talking to Him gave me so much confidence. It confirmed success over everything I planned to do this year!

MOVING FORWARD

So moving forward.. what did I gain from this that I can take into the new year? With all of this time on my hands, I was able to plan for my future. As a bit of encouragement, I say this…

“Faith without work, is dead.” – James 2:20

Once God does His part, We must do our part! I hope this post gives you some encouragement on spending more time with God and yourself, and motivates you to focus on your success!

9 Month No Heat Challenge

August 1st started my 9 Month No Heat Challenge — a whole school year. I did this last year and it was a success! I witnessed sooo much growth and difference in strength and bounce in my hair by the end of April 2017. This year I’ll have a strict routine for my natural hair, considering last year (due to my bad techniques when choosing protective styling) I ran into some problems like split ends and hair breakage. Last year my main protective style was human hair wigs, but this time around I want to expand and try crochet braiding, other braiding styles, and synthetic wigs that are affordable for college students. My first protective style is my synthetic wig from Sam’s Beauty.

Here are my guidelines/routine:

  • Wash day & re-twist (every other Monday)
    • Co-wash, detangle, twist
  • Include a hair mask every last Monday of every month into your wash day
  • Spritz water to hair every day in the morning
  • Take hair vitamins once a day
    • Nature’s Bounty Biotin, The Mane Choice (this is the one I’m using), Hairfinity Hair Vitamins, etc.
  • Night time routine
    • sleep with satin scarf with an optional satin pillow case
    • If wearing a wig
      • apply oil around edges and nape area before applying satin scarf
    • when in the mood to give hair a break from being in the twists, take the twists out and use your satin scarf to pull hair into a pineapple
    • apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil (or your oil of choice) to scalp and ends of hair
  • Drink a gallon of water at least 3 days out of the week
  • Switch protective style every 1-1.5 months
  • NO CUTTING YOUR HAIR OR APPLYING HEAT WHAT SO EVER!

More pic mail! This is the Outre Synthetic Dominican Curly Full Lace Wig! I love, love, love this wig! IT WAS $25 FOR THE FULL LACE and $16 FOR THE HALF WIG VERSION. I got it in a 1B, and when it arrived it was soft and bouncy. The curls were AMAZING. It was big, full, and long which didn’t work for my height because I’m so short. I just took my scissors and chopped it down a bit to frame my face and sit on my shoulders, and it still looks full and big. 10/10!

I’m so excited guys! Some friends and I are heading to NYC this week! We deserve this break honestly. We’ve been working so hard this summer, so it’s only right we take some time off! But of course, Charley Moné won’t be taking a break from blogging. I’ll be mixing pleasure and work this weekend.

I’ll be vlogging my visit and creating a look book which will turn into my first Youtube video for my Youtube Channel! I’ve been wanting to take this step and venture out to a new platform for so long, but I had to take time to really think about how I wanted to represent myself and brand myself through Youtube before actually posting anything.But yes, be on the lookout for that video! Finding Yourself + Your Purpose

Finding yourself is not a walk in the park, and it might take you longer than others to do so and that is completely okay. I really didn’t ‘try’ to find my purpose until I got into college and realized that life is really moving and I eventually have to be going somewhere. Figuring out who we are and what we want out of life can be challenging… especially if at any point you, like me, veered off the course of self-exploration and self-acceptance. Somewhere down the road, expect life to smack you in the face enough times to give you a wakeup call. I could go on and on about what lead me to finding myself and my purpose, but for the sake of this topic I’ll stick to the steps needed in order to do so.

accept yourself, above all else

Forgive yourself. Be kind to yourself. Celebrate your strengths. Remove your inner critic. It always easier said than done, right? I know. But all of these things are so necessary. Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come. Sometimes we try to reach a standard that someone else set for us. These things can be so toxic to your life if you don’t control it.

speak to your best self

Speak to your best self! You know, that boss ass bitch inside you! haha, bring her out and let her reign. Close your eyes and imagine yourself 10 years down the road. Skin glowing, your excelling in your career, you own your own house and car — whatever expectations  you have for yourself, speak them into existence.

be selfish

Find the balance between 50% selflessness, and 50% selfishness. Take your “me” time, know when you need it, and learn how to give it to yourself. I said it once and I’ll say it again, don’t let people manipulate you into thinking you’re being selfish for taking care of yourself. Ever. Figure out what energizes you, what makes you happy, how you connect to yourself. Don’t sacrifice those things – put them first. In the end, you can’t rely on anyone but yourself to bring you true happiness so stop waiting for anything or anyone outside yourself to try and start being the vessel that helps you receive it. Becoming extremely sensitive and selfish with yourself, time, and energy are essential to creating the person you’re meant to be.
do what you love, love what you do
You know that saying, “do what you love and you’ll never hate a Monday”? Sometimes we feel we don’t know what our purpose is when in fact, it’s lingering within us. To start, try everything. Start broad and ask yourself, “What do I want to experience on a daily basis?” It will help point you in the right direction. Be patient. When you find something you love doing, do your research. Find out what jobs are available out there for what you want to do and figure out how you can profit from your passion.

I shared this with my friends a few days ago, and I really wanted to share it with you guys as well.

I’ve been waking up super early than usual since June and I’ve been asking God why. Like I’m talking about 6 AM type of early when I usually wake up say 9-10 AM. Along the way and through prayer, I’ve been asking God to help me walk in His purpose and live the life He wants me to live. Since then every morning I wake up, I get this urge to blog and write. Before I didn’t have time for it because of work, thus I wasn’t able to become consistent. Now I get up every morning and just write. I’m not tired or weary. I have all types of energy to get things done. Long story short, when you ask God for something and you continue to listen to Him and obey His word, He will give you the desires of your heart. Through this God shows me what my purpose is. Now I know what I want to do, is what He called me to do and that makes me happy.

If God woke you up today, that means you’re blessed and your purpose on this Earth isn’t fulfilled yet. Everyday you wake up, you’re one step closer to your dreams. Everything you do today (not tomorrow or the next day) creates your future. Remember that ✨

Also, know that you do not have to stick to one thing. You want to be a doctor and a painter, do that. You want to make music and work in retail, do that! You are unlimited. When you find your purpose, you will find happiness and your purpose will become your passion. When you find and accept yourself, you will gain peace and more understanding. Accepting who you are and knowing your values will help you to look at other people as mirrors. Meaning, you will be able to understand others better without having to having shift your mindset to theirs.

What’s In: Off the shoulder. Off-the-shoulder tops are pretty much everywhere you turn. The summer trend has evolved into a huge phenomenon, as women of all shapes and sizes are sporting this style and have been now for months! Many retailers are stocking up on this popular trend — from crop tops, dresses, fashion tops, rompers, jumpsuits, etc. It’s feminine and you can wear it in any season!

Other ways to pair an off-the-shoulder top could be with a dainty choker and mini skirt combo, or even ripped jeans and a clutch bag! Cute right?

There were definitely moments where I became lazy, didn’t want to get up and blog, or even get out of bed. Yet, God and my support system got me out of that much every single time. More travel posts are in the looks! I’d give away my first location, but that would spoil the surprise! Sharing my experiences with others has always been a passion of mine. I’d like to do at least two every year (noting this in my goals list).

Since I’m from Cleveland, I also want to give this beautiful place more exposure. I want to give you guys the what’s hot and what’s not around my town! There are so many hidden gems in Cleveland that no one really knows about! I want to interview local businesses in my area and work with local artists, stylists, photographers, etc. Just wait on it.

10 Detox Water Recipes to Cleanse Your Body!

Hey #StyleIslandBloggers, recently I’ve been trying to turn my life around. I’m becoming more productive, handling my business, learning self-love tactics, and just learning to control my happiness and faith. With that, being able to make healthy choices when it comes to what goes into my body has been a top priority for me. I’ve seen lots of people try detox teas and waters, and it’s been sparking my interest for a while. Although I do want to try the teas, detox water became a quick and easy thing for me to do CONSISTENTLY.

The motto? CLEAR SKIN AND FLAT TUMMY ALL SUMMER ’17! I’ve done some research and have decided to share some the recipes I’ve been using! Take notes people. These will change your life! Now I’m not a fan of flavored water, but the taste of detox water has definitely grown on me. For one, it is less flavored than flavored water. Two, there’s no artificial sweeteners. And three, it tastes much more refreshing and infused with all of the fruits’ and vegetables’ goodness. Let’s get into it!


WAKE UP REFRESHER

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Slices of grapefruit
  • Mint leaves
  • Water

This detox water is sooo refreshing. You just mix the grapefruit and mint leaves with your ice and water, put it in the fridge overnight, and drink it before you start your day! Everyone loves a good tall glass of water in the morning — why not make it more enjoyable? Health benefits: Grapefruit aids in blood pressure and heart health. Mint is a great appetizer or palate cleanser, and it promotes digestion.

BEFORE/DURING WORK OUT

  • Slices of watermelon
  • Slices of cucumbers
  • Mint leaves
  • Aloe Vera Juice
  • Water

This detox is hydrating and adds nutrients back into your body while working out. All you need is a dash of aloe vera juice, nothing major. Health benefits: Watermelon has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. Aloe vera juice aids in hydration, heartburn relief, and clear skins. Mint, as said before, promotes digestion. Cucumbers contain multiple B vitamins, including vitamin B1, vitamin B5, and vitamin B7 (biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress.

POST WORKOUT

Very refreshing. This is definitely one of my top five’s. I do this one a lot, even when I don’t workout. Yet, it is extremely helpful when you do. This detox water brings electrolytes back into your body after your workout and even has a very citrusy taste. Health benefits: Pineapples aid in immune system support, eye health, and bone strength. Get this, oranges have a staggering 130% of your vitamin C needs for the day! The health benefits of lemon are due to its many nourishing elements like vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, copper, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus and protein.

BEFORE BEDTIME

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Slices of lemon
  • Slices of lime
  • Dash of aloe vera juice
  • Water

This detox water will be super helpful before you go to bed, considering you will be getting a full night’s rest without any water. The aloe vera juice will keep you hydrated through the night, and the lemon and lime will give you a nice citrusy taste before bed.  (Health benefits are/will be stated in previous/future recipes.)

DURING/AFTER DINNER

  • Slices of kiwi
  • Blueberries
  • Mint leaves
  • Water

This is perfect for during/after your dinners because it will help reduce bloating with the mint leaves and the kiwi. Plus the blueberries and mint combo is delicious! Health benefits: kiwi is a high source of vitamin C and folate, protects DNA damage, boots your immunity, supports weight loss, and improves digestive health.

GOT A SWEET TOOTH?

  • Sliced apples
  • Sliced oranges
  • Cut up pieces of strawberries
  • Water

We all have a sweet craving during the day, right? This is just for that! The orange/apple/strawberry infusion gives the water such a sweet taste — very pleasing to the taste buds. I’m not going to state any health benefits here because we’ve pretty much covered these fruits already!

LUNCH TIME

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Slices of lemon
  • Cut up pieces of strawberries
  • Mint leaves
  • Water

This one is perfect for during your lunch. It’s very tasty and the mint makes it extremely refreshing. Personally, I’m not a big strawberry eater. but I’ll definitely put it into my water! Health benefits: strawberries have lots of folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, and magnesium. It is also extremely high in vitamin C! (I’m pretty sure we’ve gotten the gist of the mint and lemons).

TUNNEL VISION

  • Mint leaves
  • Blueberries
  • Cut up lavender plant
  • Water

Very photogenic and aesthetically pleasing — this one is perfect if you’re having a hard time focusing on projects, on the job, etc. I drink this while blogging actually. It does give me a sense of “tunnel vision” or focus so that I’m concentrating on what is in front of me. Health Benefits: Lavender aids in its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain,  enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems.

TO CALM A STORM

  • Chopped up lemongrass leaves
  • Sliced lemons
  • Blueberries
  • Water

This detox water is perfect when you need something to calm you down, having anxiety, stress, etc. Maybe you’re about to take a big test and need something to calm your nerves. This is your go-to. Health benefits: lemongrass is a plant. The leaves and the oil are used to make medicine. Lemongrass is used for treating digestive tract spasms, stomachache, high blood pressure, convulsions, pain, vomiting, cough, achy joints (rheumatism), fever, the common cold, and exhaustion. Blueberries aid in  warding off heart disease. The blueberry’s fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6 all aid in heart health.

STARVATION KILLER

  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Sliced apples
  • Sliced limes
  • Water

Hungry, but you can’t eat yet? This is perfect if you’re ever on a timed schedule and say you have a set time to eat at 6pm and it’s 5pm. Or maybe if you’re going on a dinner date in a few and need something for your stomach to wait out the time. I love green apples, but of course you can use red if that’s your preference. Health benefits: limes help with weight loss, skin care, improved digestion, relief from constipation, eye care, and treatment of scurvy, piles, peptic ulcer, respiratory disorders, gout, gums, urinary disorders, etc. Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants and dietary fiber.


All of these great recipes are NOT time consuming, and I think that’s what I love most. Of course you can do any of these fruits, leaves, and vegetables alone with just water. Some other simple ones I’ve done are lemon and oranges, strawberries and mint, and kiwi just by itself. Get you a water bottle, maybe one with an infuser, and you’re all set!

#DOTW | What Are You Worth?

Do you know your worth?

“… you are precious in my eyes … and I love you.” Isaiah 43:4

God says not only are you accepted; you’re valuable.

How much do you think you’re worth?  I’m not talking about your net worth; I’m talking about your self worth.  Don’t ever confuse your valuables with your value as a person.  You can be rich or poor but it has nothing to do with your value as a person.

Think for a moment about diamonds. They are one of the most precious items in creation. They are rare, beautiful and highly prized. But they are nothing compared to how God values us. Does God really think you and I are more precious than diamonds? We — who trip and fall and fail more often than we care to admit?

Don’t feel it?

Just think about this: We are so precious to God that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to this earth to die so you and I wouldn’t have to die because of the way we have messed up our lives with sin. Author David Eckman, in Becoming Who God Intended, pictures God explaining this to us: “My Son is dying for you because you are worth a Son to Me.”

Just think of it: God says, “You are worth a Son to Me”!

If you’ve ever doubted your own worth, or don’t know where to go from where you are, or you’re losing heart … then listen to Father God saying to you, “You are important enough to Me to justify the death of My Son. I want to have a close and intimate relationship with you.”

Pray this…

“God, I don’t feel very lovable. No matter how hard I try, I mess things up and end up feeling guilty and unlovable. But today I’m going to take a chance on You. I’m going to assume You really mean it when You say I am precious in Your sight, and You love me. I throw myself into Your arms. Thank You, thank You for a love that is bigger than all my mistakes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. “

DOTW | Living an Unfiltered Life

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” – 1 Peter 3:3-4

We live in a filtered world. A world that no longer accepts reality and instead demands that women and men master the charade. We live in a world where people are self-absorbed and self conscious more than anything. We like to play roles that don’t fit who we truly are to match what’s expected of us. We live for pleasing others before ourselves and yearning for acceptance. Think of this question: who are you?

No but really, who are you? The real you — your unapologetic self. The one who is happy with the way he lives and how he views hisself. Did you forget that you were made in God’s image? (Gen. 1:27) If you’re having trouble figuring this out and need guidance, pray this:

Lord, help me live an authentic life. Help me see where my true beauty and worth lie – in being a child of the Most High God. Help me have the unfading beauty of a gentle spirit. Thank you for valuing me so much that you sent Jesus to die for me. Thank you that you take what is broken and ugly in me – my sin – and wash me white as snow. Help me live to glorify you, not myself.
